Blood drives scheduled for Johnston Memorial Blood Bank
ABINGDON, Va. – Johnston Memorial Hospital Blood Bank has scheduled the following blood drives. To make a donation appointment, please contact the blood bank at (276) 258-1710.
June 19 – K-VA-T, Abingdon, Va., 8:30-11:30 a.m.
June 19 – Food City Distribution Center, Abingdon, Va., 1-5 p.m.
June 20 – Barter Theatre State II, Abingdon, Va.,9 a.m.-noon
June 20 – Washington County Public Library, Abingdon, Va.,1-4 p.m.
June 21 –Penn Stuart, Abingdon, Va., 9 a.m.-noon
June 21 – Farm Credit, Abingdon, Va., 1-4 p.m.
June 26 – Highlands Union Bank, Abingdon, Va., 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
June 27 – First Christian Church, Abingdon, Va., 3-7 p.m.
June 28 – Southwestern Virginia Training Center, Hillsville, Va., 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
In addition to these mobile blood drives, the JMH Donor Center is open Mondays from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Tuesday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The donor center is also open the fourth Saturday of each month from 7 a.m. to noon. Healthy individuals ages 16 and older and weighing more than 120 pounds are eligible to donate blood. Healthy donors who are currently taking blood pressure or cholesterol medications are eligible. Diabetic donors are eligible if certain criteria such as blood glucose level and routine checks on glucose level are met. First-time donors age 65 or older must have permission from their doctors, ensuring that a blood donation will not compromise their health.
Donors must provide valid identification, such as driver’s license or a donor card, have eaten a meal within the last 4 hours and be well and healthy. Donors who are 16 must have parental consent to donate. All blood types are needed.
JMH Blood Bank is the blood collection entity of Johnston Memorial Hospital, located in Abingdon, Va. The JMH Blood Bank provides blood products to Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion, Va. and Twin County Regional Hospital in Galax, Va.
