CrestPoint sponsoring Crusaders race series
CrestPoint Health, MSHA’s insurance administrator, is sponsoring the CrestPoint Crusaders Running Series, a schedule of road races culminating with the Haunted Half Marathon on Oct. 27 in Kingsport.
Runners who participate in four of the five races receive a CrestPoint Crusaders running jacket, while runners who complete three of the races get a CrestPoint Crusaders Dri-FIT running shirt. These prizes will be available at the Haunted Half Marathon in Kingsport, or at CrestPoint Health.
The race series began March 16 with the Shamrock 4 Miler in Abingdon, Va., and the rest of the schedule includes:
- Bill Gatton Honda Memorial Freedom 5K on May 26 in Bristol, Va.
- Blue Plum 5K on June 2 in Johnson City
- Crazy 8s 8K on July 14 in Kingsport
- Haunted Half Marathon on Oct. 27 in Kingsport
The races are being sponsored by CrestPoint and We Run Events.
“We’re pleased to co-sponsor the series with We Run Events,” said Kelli Andrews, marketing coordinator for Integrated Health Solutions Network, CrestPoint’s parent organization. “We try to sponsor events that are focused on a healthy lifestyle. We’re hopeful the series will encourage and motivate experienced and new runners alike.
“We have received a lot of positive comments regarding the series. People are excited about it and so are we.”
The Bill Gatton Honda Memorial Freedom 5K will start at 8 a.m. at the Bristol Train Station, 101 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., in Bristol. Registration is $20 by May 24 and $25 after that. The race starts under the Bristol sign on State Street and covers downtown sections on the Tennessee and Virginia sides. It is described as a fast course.
The race benefits the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
The Shamrock 4 Miler took place in March and was a rousing success, with 583 people registering. The race, co-sponsored by Johnston Memorial Hospital, was held on a Friday night and had a festive atmosphere, with people encouraged to wear green. It was a strong start to the CrestPoint Crusaders series.
“We had an excellent turnout for this first-time race,” Andrews said. “We partnered with JMH and also worked with the Town of Abingdon. We offered barbecue and had a live band set up after the race, which was very unique. We’re looking forward to next year’s race and have already started planning.”
CrestPoint is a title sponsor of the Shamrock 4 Miler, Blue Plum 5K, Crazy 8s and the Haunted Half Marathon. For the series, CrestPoint chose races in various locations – Johnson City, Bristol, Kingsport and Abingdon – at various race distances, with a mix of new events and established ones. And all the series races have distinct personalities that make them stand out.
